More than two-thirds of motorists, potentially including Car Finance customers, will now choose an eco-friendly car to avoid paying higher road tax, new research has shown.
During 2007, car showrooms across the UK have seen a higher public interest in environmentally-friendly cars as a result of an increased road tax charge levied on the worst polluting vehicles, Motorpoint suggests.
As a result, sales of hybrid and low polluting cars have increased rapidly throughout the year, as car hunters, potentially car finance customers, look to avoid higher taxation charges.
Motorpoint operations director Paul Winfield said: "A lot of the feedback we get from customers suggests that they are increasingly putting a car's green credentials higher up their lists of important features and benefits. We already include a windscreen sticker on cars in our showrooms with details of emissions levels."
Earlier this year, car manufacturers and the European Union agreed to reduce emissions from all new vehicles to below 120 g/km2 by 2012.
