Auto Loan buyers will find the following story particularly amusing. Forty years ago a 26-year-old Welsh engineer by the name of Michael Standen was working on an engineering contract in Brunei, on the north coast of Borneo, when he found the abandoned wreck of an MG sports car in the jungle.
Michael immediately fell in love with the car and decided that the 1954 MG TF150 could not be left in the condition it was in (the fact that he didn´t need an auto loan to buy the car must certainly have been part of its allure). He borrowed a truck to tow it away and subsequently started the painstaking process of restoring the car to its former glory.
He said: "I didn´t know how it got there but it seemed such a waste of a piece of British motoring history."
When he found the car, one of the doors was missing and a tree had also started growing through the middle of the chassis. Snakes and other jungle creatures had also started making nests in the car.
Originally Michael planned to drive the MG all the way back to the UK, but unfortunately his work contract ended before the car was fully restored and he was forced to ship it to the UK in a container. The rest of the restoration was carried out at his home in South Cornelly.
For 40 years, Michael only used the car for short trips around his home. Eventually, Mr Standen, now 66, decided to put the MG up for auction. The best offer came from Jody Green, a beef farmer from Ely, Cambridgeshire. According to Mr Green he purchased the car because of its colourful history.
Auto Loan buyers who are interested in buying the car from Mr Green should contact him directly - anyone prepared to pay substantially more than £20,000, that is.
