UK Car finance buyers will soon be able to recharge their electric cars at 'green' electricity recharging points across the country. The announcement follows a partnership that has been signed between a local electric car charging company and a green energy provider.
The agreement between Green Motion UK Ltd and Green Energy UK plc will launch a series of Network One electric recharging stations across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
While electric cars have no C02 emissions, the process of electricity generation does produce a carbon footprint of its own.
There are already a number of Network One recharging stations in countries such as Switzerland, France and Germany. The latest developments however mark the first time UK car finance drivers will have the opportunity to recharge their vehicles using electricity generated solely by eco-friendly processes such as solar power and wind.
Green Motion said that initially 30 new jobs would be created in the process. The Network One equipment will be manufactured either in Oxford or Cheshire.
Stewart McKee, Managing Director of Green Motion UK, had this to say about the new initiative: "This is a game changing industry partnership, which will accelerate the adoption of electric cars and reduce carbon-based energy reliance,"
He went on to say that it was also a significant development to improve the UK's position in the competitive environment of global technology.
According to Green Motion estimates, the total number of recharging stations available to car finance drivers in the UK will exceed 100,000 by the year 2018.
