Car finance customers must keep check on tyre conditions

Oct 28 2008

Car Loans customers are being warned to check their tyre pressures and tread depth ahead of the wet winter weather.

UK tyre safety organisation TyreSafe issued the advice after recent figures from the Department of Transport revealed that November saw the highest number of accidents amongst drivers of new and used cars.

"In addition to regular tyre pressure checks, TyreSafe strongly advises motorists to check their tread depth and ensure they meet the minimum legal level before rainfall levels increase," said TyreSafe chairman Rob Beddis.

Mr Beddis added that many drivers continue to drive their cars on tyres with "low or illegal tread depth", reducing their road grip and putting themselves in danger of aquaplaning and failing to stop in case of an emergency.

Car Finance customers should ensure that their tyres meet the current tread depth legislation of 1.6mm around the entire circumference, with those that do not liable to face fines and penalty points if they are caught out.

The advice comes as part of Tyre Safety Month, during which TyreSafe aims to highlight the economic, environmental and safety benefits of keeping check on car tyre conditions.ADNFCR-1366-ID-18847874-ADNFCR
