Many new and used car drivers claim they are increasingly being distracted by the number of gadgets vehicles now boast, it has been claimed.
Research by used car information website motors.co.uk found that 70.6 per cent of drivers feel they are being "driven to distraction" by the gadgets now on offer.
Of those surveyed, 52.9 per cent said they would prefer fewer non-essential features, with 29.4 per cent claiming having to deal with sat navs is a major distraction and using in-car music gadgets was found to affect the concentration of one in five drivers.
Katie Armitage, marketing manager for motors.co.uk, said: "Many modern cars are filled with gadgets and gizmos and for many drivers are seen as not only confusing to use but also a major cause of distraction for both themselves and other drivers."
In light of this new research, manufacturers ought to go "back to basics" when it comes to kitting out cars, the expert added.
However, recent research by TomTom found that 55 per cent of sat nav owners feel more alert when using the devices and 74 per cent said they make them feel more in control when driving.
