Secured Car Loans customers are being warned not to risk having their vehicles broken into by thieves targeting expensive satellite navigation systems.
The Institute of Motoring (IAM) warned that even leaving signs that a sat nav is in use in a car could mean drivers have to fork out for repairs on damage caused by break-ins.
Many Car Finance customers now own the devices to help make it easier to reach unknown destinations, but IAM spokesman Vince Yearly warned that they can attract criminals.
As well as removing sat navs from their cars when not in use, he urged drivers to wipe away the visible marks often left behind on the windscreen to avoid becoming a victim.
Otherwise, he said, thieves spotting the marks could force entry into vehicles to search the glove box for the device.
Earlier this month, Merseyside Police reported an increase in the number of sat nav systems being stolen from cars as criminals targeted the expensive gadgets.
