Car loans customers warned over key theft
Jan 12 2009Drivers who fail to keep a close eye on their car keys could find they are making "a very costly mistake", it has been claimed.
Vehicle recovery systems specialist Tracker warned that motorists are unlikely to be covered by their insurance policies if they leave their keys in the ignition - meaning they may have to apply for Car Finance to replace their vehicle.
Stuart Chapman, Tracker's police relationship manager, claimed it is "essential" that drivers never leave their cars unattended.
"Don't make it easy for car thieves, look after your car keys and never leave them in the vehicle unattended," he warned.
The caution comes after Princess Beatrice had her BMW stolen when she left it unattended with the engine running as she went into a nearby shop.
Tracker had already warned just last month that Car Loans customers should consider looking after their car keys as "the first step" in vehicle security after it revealed that key theft was the most common method for stealing cars.
