A number of secured Car Loans customers may have regretted venturing out in their new vehicles early this week as difficult weather conditions resulted in accidents across the UK.
The country was subject to its heaviest snowfall in 18 years on Monday and accident management company Accident Exchange calculated a total damage bill of around £60 million.
New and used car owners were advised only to travel if their journeys were essential, but many defied the warnings and hit the roads anyway.
Accident Exchange chief executive Steve Evans suggested that the rarity of such severe weather in the UK meant that many drivers were unprepared for the treacherous road conditions.
"Driver inexperience is to blame with people coming across marooned cars and hitting them, driving too fast or too close to the car in front," he said.
The number of accidents recorded tripled compared to normal expected levels, despite Car Finance customers receiving a number of warnings throughout the day.
With the snow not yet cleared from many roads across the country, Protyre has advised drivers to make sure they accelerate and break gently and keep well clear of other vehicles.
