The finance you need The car you want

Car News

Dec 12 2007

Nearly four out of every five loans customers who commute to work would pay to park their car in their company's car park rather than go on public transport, a new survey has found.

Later this month, councillors in Nottingham will vote on proposals to actively pursue workplace car park charging as an alternative to congestion charging schemes.

As a result, 79 per cent of finance customers polled by Motorpoint said they would pay the proposed £185 charge, as travelling to work on public transport would be too uncomfortable.

David Shelton, Motorpoint's managing director, said: "This survey demonstrates that, unless this poor perception of public transport changes, [people] are going to be left without a real choice and may be forced into paying an unwanted tax where these workplace parking levy schemes are introduced."

Money raised from the Nottingham parking levy will be used to improve public transport in the city, according to Nottingham City Council.
