Lord March: I'm not The Stig
Jan 23 2009Unsecured Car Loans and petrolheads across the UK have been assured that the secret behind the true identity of The Stig has not been leaked.
The mystery racing driver, a familiar figure to viewers of BBC's Top Gear show, has remained unnamed for years.
However, the media threatened to the ruin the fun for car loans customers and Top Gear executives alike by claiming to have outed the identity of the driver.
Press reports suggested that the Earl of March was the man beneath the white racing overalls and crash helmet.
However, he moved to quash these rumours, which he insisted were not true.
"I am very flattered that so many fellow petrol heads believe that I might be The Stig, but I am sorry to disappoint them," he said.
However, Lord March did admit that he would "relish the opportunity" to appear on the show as the "star in the reasonably-priced car".
Top Gear is hosted by motoring journalists Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, and has proved a huge hit with car fans across the country.
