Night vision tops poll for in-car technology

Night vision and adaptive cruise control are at the top of a list of technologies that British drivers would most like to see in their next vehicle, it has emerged.

The results were revealed in a new survey by MSN Cars, which asked new and used car owners across the UK to name their most preferred features.

Close to 30,000 people were polled, with respondents being asked to choose between options such as active high-beam, adaptive cruise control, lanekeeping assistance and voice control.

One in five plumped for night vision, while the same proportion highlighted adaptive cruise control - technology that keeps motorists a set distance from the car in front - as their favourite choice.

Lanekeeping assistance came bottom of the list with just four per cent of the vote.

Tom Evans, content manager of MSN Cars, said the poll offered a clear indication of the technology desired by most potential buyers and Car Finance customers.

"It may also indicate that car manufacturers have a challenge in educating the public in terms of the benefits that some of these new technologies can offer in terms of convenience and safety," he added.

Cumbria Police recently issued Car Loans customers with a warning against relying too heavily on in-car technology, claiming that sat navs should not be considered a replacement for common sense.
