Regular servicing protects value of used cars
Oct 21 2008Car Loans customers should ensure they take the necessary steps to keep their car running smoothly throughout the coming winter months, according to representatives from the Automotive Technician Accreditiation (ATA) scheme.
As well as ultimately ensuring the vehicle remains reliable, efficient and safe to drive, keeping the car running well allows owners looking to sell on their used cars to help preserve its resale value.
Representatives from the scheme insist that motorists and car loans customers should not delay booking their vehicle in for its regular service, nor try to save on costs by attempting repairs themselves.
The scheme is regulated by the Institute for the Motor Industry (IMI) and chief executive Sarah Sillars urged motorists to keep their car properly looked after by "a professionally recognised technician".
"A well maintained vehicle is a safer one and that's the most important thing," she added.
According to a survey conducted on behalf of the ATA this summer, almost half of private car owners conceded that they knew next to nothing about maintaining their car.
