Stars' cars set for auction

A major collection of classic cars and vehicles formerly owned by some of Hollywood's biggest stars will be on show at a major auction in Monaco this weekend.

The Bonhams Monaco Motor Car Sale will see vehicles previously owned by the likes of film star Christian Slater, as well as classical musician Herbert Von Karajan.

They will be among 91 lots going under the hammer at the prestigious event, but the pick of the bunch may well be the car formerly owned by the Aga Khan, as buyers may be keen to get their hands on a piece of history.

However, there will be plenty of other vehicles to choose from, with some of the most impressive classic used cars ever produced on display.

"We have been conducting an annual auction sale in Monaco since 1986 and each year we attract some of the finest collectors' cars," said Bonhams Motoring Department's international managing director, James Knight.

He added: "The market for collectors' cars is healthy, as our recent sales testify."

The used car market in general has seen a sharp rise in sales over recent months, with figures from the British Car Auctions organisation and Glass's predicting the value of used cars will continue to rise over the course of 2009 as the recession deepens.
