Women drivers are less likely to be caught out by adverse weather conditions than their male counterparts, new research suggests.
A survey of almost 1,300 motorists found that, in severe weather, 44 per cent of women said they would continue their journeys, compared to 62 per cent of men - risking accidents and future Car Credit rating.
The report by the Highways Agency also found that only 40 per cent of over-65s would continue in adverse whether, compared with 65 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds. Drivers may hinder applications for Car Loans or Car Finance if they ignore weather advice.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: "The British winter is not just about ice and snow. As we have seen this year, heavy rain, strong winds and fog are as much a part of the British climate and they can make driving hazardous. So make sure you and your vehicle are ready for winter."
Research by NFU Mutual published earlier this month found that untreated country roads in winter make for "unpredictable" driving conditions.
