One in ten people who drive for work purposes have admitted to falling asleep at the wheel during the last 12 months, new research has found.
Car Credit customers may like to know that the figure is twice as high as those who do not drive for work-related reasons, a study by road safety charity Brake suggested.
Research found that an average of six people - possibly including Car Loans customers - die each week due to accidents involving tired drivers. Half the people surveyed said they drive for work on less than five hours sleep per night.
Cathy Keeler, head of campaigns for Brake, said: "Too many people are dying on our roads because people get behind the wheel when impaired through tiredness.
"It is outrageous that so many companies allow their employees to drive on company time when they are so tired that they actually fall asleep."
Last month, Brake published research which found that nearly half of young drivers take to the roads in the early morning after a night spent drinking alcohol.
