The new Mazda CX-5, which was released in the UK earlier this month, has been named one of the safest cars in the world.
The compact crossover SUV has been handed the highest possible five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP and it was awarded top marks in all four of the categories.
It scored 94 percent, 87 percent and 86 percent in adult occupant protection, child occupant protection and safety assist systems respectively, comfortably above the 80 percent, 75 percent and 60 percent needed to get the five stars.
The new CX-5 also achieved the maximum rating in the new higher standards of pedestrian protection that have been introduced by Euro NCAP this year and it is the third Mazda model to be awarded five stars since 2009.
The Mazda3 and Mazda6 are the others but the CX-5 is the first of a new generation to be kitted out with the new SKYACTIV body.
