In a short 18 months from now interested car buyers will be able to apply for a car loan on the brand new car that is to replace the Mazda 6. This news has been confirmed by Mazda.
The four-door sedan concept car will be called “Takeri” and it will make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in two months from now.
According to inside sources estate and hatchback versions are also in the pipeline, but details remain sketchy. Mazda has, however, confirmed that the car will follow the company’s new “Kodo” design philosophy.
It will be powered by the same 2.2 litre SkyActive-D diesel engine used in the CX-5 due for release in March.
This is a brand new engine. The 2.2-litre motor develops 173 bhp and fuel consumption will be in the region of 60 miles per gallon. Able to rev smoothly to 5,500rpm, it will have a peak torque of 400Nm and in-gear acceleration is promised to be strong.
The Takeri is the brainchild of chief designer Akira Tamatani. As was the case with the Minagi concept car that Mazda showcased before the launch of the CX5, the car is no doubt a close representation of the road version it precedes.
The production version is likely to be both tougher and lighter than its predecessor – thanks to the use of high-tensile lightweight steel. Mazda, in fact, promises that every component will be lighter, yet stronger than the one it replaces.
This, the company says, will improve both handling and fuel consumption.
