New Mazda the Cleanest Ever

Aug 4 2011 New Mazda the Cleanest Ever Image

If you are an eco-conscious car owner who wouldn't be likely to take up car finance for anything with an emission level of more than 120g/km, you will be delighted to hear that the new Mazda CX5 will be the greenest Mazda ever and the SUV with the lowest emission levels on the market.

Mazda has recently published more information about its answer to the Land Rover Freelander. The CX5 will be positioned below the slightly bigger CX-7 SUV. It will also be the first Mazda to use the company's SkyActiv eco-friendly technology. This means emission levels will be below 120g/km.

The CX5's styling was inspired by Mazda's concept car, the Minagi, which made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. First impressions are that the design team did an excellent job of retaining the Minagi's clean lines.

The CX5 will also act as a showcase for the company's new KODO design policy, which aims to give the brand a new face and a more businesslike stance. Mazda bosses promise the new look will be apparent in the car's cabin as well.

Under the bonnet there will be a choice of new engines, all using SkyActiv technology. A 2-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel with two different power outputs will be available. The lowest CO2 emissions of 120g/km/ will be produced by the diesel when combined with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive.

To put this in perspective: the two-wheel drive VW Tiguan offers 64bhp less and still has emission levels of 139g/km.
