Mercedes Announces E300 BlueTEC HYBRID

Let us face it: Mercedes has been at the top of the list of “most desired” cars of many motorists for quite a few decades.  Signing up for a car finance deal on a Mercedes somehow means that you have arrived, that you now belong to an elite club that spells success.

Once you “have arrived” though, you nowadays also have to prove that you care about the environment – and nothing does it better than an electric or hybrid car.

A perfect example of the latter is the new Mercedes E-Class E300 BlueTEC Hybrid.  It is not only the E-Class model with the highest efficiency rating ever, but it also has the highest efficiency rating of any big executive car in its class.

The new E-300 will make its first appearance at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2012.  It will start appearing on UK showroom floors in the summer of next year.

The car is driven by a four-cylinder 2.1-litre engine delivering 201bhp combined with a 20kW electric motor.  It uses a lithium-ion battery.

Average fuel consumption will be in the region of 67.3 miles per gallon and CO2 emissions 109g/km.  To put this into perspective: the BMW 520d Efficient Dynamics offers fuel consumption of 62.8 mpg and emission levels of 119g/km.

On the other hand, the BMW only costs £30,435, while the new E300 will set you back more than £40,000.

Mercedes has not revealed any performance figures for the new model, but expect a 0-60mph acceleration time of around seven seconds.
