Kanye West on his own is already a crowd pleaser. The mere presence of the American record producer, singer and rapper is enough to draw hordes of supporters – and the paparazzi. When he drives a Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss, of which only 75 were ever made, he adds a few million car lovers to his following.
This is what happened recently at the Cannes Film Festival when Moss nonchalantly paraded around with the $1.7m plus car. We are not sure whether he actually owns the vehicle, or whether he borrowed it from an equally rich friend, but the fact is that the leather-trimmed interior of the SLR fitted him like a glove.
There are probably not many UK car loan buyers who own one of these beauties. The highly advanced 5.5-litre powertrain delivers an impressive 650 break horse power. Despite having no windscreen, the racy roadster can still deliver a (literally) breathtaking maximum speed of 217 miles an hour (just under 350 kilometres an hour).
To sprint from 0 to 60 miles an hour happens so quickly that you will hardly have time to catch your breath – less than 3.5 seconds to be precise.
It is unlikely that Kanye ever pushed the SLR to its limit though – his dark sunglasses would not have given him much protection against the whiplash one is bound to experience when being accelerated from 0-60 in a steel cage in less than 3.5 seconds.
