Car loan customers 'could splash out on MG return candidate'
Car loan customers 'could splash out on MG return candidate'
Apr 25 2008
A candidate model for the return of the MG brand to the UK has been unveiled in China.
Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) now owns the marque and launched the Roewe 550 at the Beijing Motor Show, which could be of interest to Car Finance customers.
What Car? and Auto Car say the small family estate could be re-branded as an MG in the UK as it is based on the ROVER 75 platform.
What Car? says: "The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine and is scheduled to go on sale in China next month."
The car could eventually be built at MG's Longbridge factory in the West Midlands when it is released in Europe by the company's Chinese owners.
Some fans of the marque could be waiting for its long-awaited return to the new car market before taking out car finance for a new car.
MG was first bought by Nanjing Automotive in 2005 after the collapse of MG Rover and Nanjing was in turn bought up by SAIC last year.
Earlier in the month Nanjing released a statement saying production of new MG TFs was still on track and engine tests were going well ahead of an unscheduled release date.
