Meet the Sportiest Mini Ever

In an economy where many of us have to drive a used vehicle financed with a cheap used car loan, BMW’s announcement of the sportiest MINI ever is something we can only dream about.  Prices for the newcomer have not yet been confirmed, but they will certainly be higher than that of a Chinese entry level model.

The two-seater MINI will have the most powerful engine in the range and a suspension that has been dropped to make it look sportier.  BMW has released a number of official pictures of the Mini Coupe, but they are still heavily camouflaged.  At least we now have some official technical specifications for the new model.

The car was designed to be an embodiment of the Mini philosophy: ultimate driving fun.  It features the trademark “helmet roof” we first saw on the Coupe concept car.  The rear windscreen is steeply raked and the car’s suspension has been dropped 29mm compared to the hatchback.  As soon as the car exceeds 50mph, a spoiler pops up automatically.

The car’s body has been made more rigid to enhance a dynamic driving experience.  The weight has also been shifted towards the front of the car to provide more traction to the front wheel drive.  The biggest change, however, is the two-seater layout.  As far as luggage space is concerned, the two-seater features additional space behind the front seats.

A range of petrol and diesel engines will be available, starting from a 120 bhp for the Mini Cooper Coupe to 208 bhp for the Mini John Cooper Works Coupé.  The latter boasts an acceleration figure of 6.4 seconds for the 0-62mph sprint.
