MINI has been named Best Small Car 2008 in the Fleet News Awards, the company behind the car has announced.
The introduction of new fuel-saving technologies alongside strong residual values made the small car the best of the bunch, according to the judging panel and may present an option for people looking to spend their car loan on an environmentally-friendly model.
"There is no other car in the sector that drivers would like to have more," said one judge of the Mini, with the Clubman model where the appeal lies for business drivers.
Fleet News' awards were decided upon by a nine-person panel of industry experts, including the Fleet News editor and deputy editor, as well as consumer editor of car price guide Parker's.
The Mini - which is available as a hatchback, convertible or in the larger Clubman form - will also be free from paying vehicle excise duty as of April 2009 due to the fact that both the Clubman and the hatch emit carbon dioxide at levels under the threshold.
The new BMW-made Mini was first launched in 2001, according to the BMW website.
