Car rental firm Hertz has just added the first electric cars to their fleet in the form of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Members of the Connect by Hertz car sharing club will be the first customers to have access to these vehicles.
Ordinary Hertz customers will soon be able to rent one of these vehicles, since the company plans to make them available at all its branches countrywide. For now, Hertz has set up 16 charging locations across London. Each of these charging stations will be able to accommodate two cars simultaneously. There is also a station at Heathrow airport. Hertz customers will of course be able to make use of Source London charging stations, which will soon start appearing all over the city.
The i-MiEV was specially developed for city use. Based on the Mitsubishi i, it meets the strict ìK-carî regulations of the Japanese government. The car provides ample space for four adults in a highly compact shell.
Hertz is a pioneer in the ìGreen carî field. The company already owns a large number of conventional cars with very low CO2 emissions levels. The electric car program will also be launched in a number of other countries as part of Hertzís GEVP, or Global Electric Vehicle Programme.
For car finance owners who need a rental car from time to time, the Hertz programme provides a good opportunity to test whether they like an electric car or not.
It seems that the new technology has come to stay and soon we will probably see special car finance packages for electric vehicles in the future.
