Car Finance customers may have found that they saved more than a large insurance bill by making sure they wear their seatbelt during journeys.
Figures released by the Department for Transport have highlighted that since the introduction of laws stipulating that drivers and front SEAT passengers buckle up in 1983, some 60,000 lives have been saved.
Meanwhile, the safety features have also helped avert 670,000 accidents, the statistics show.
"With up to 15 drivers and front seat passengers killed each year by the impact of an unbelted rear seat passenger it is vital that everyone - young or old, travelling in the front or back - wears a seatbelt," stated road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick.
The department commented that recent findings have shown that 94 per cent of drivers now wear a seatbelt.
But research cited by the BBC suggests that more than two million motorists are still failing to observe the law.
