Mitsubishi plans to have its complete network of car franchises in the UK 100% ready for electric vehicles by March 2012.
With immediate effect the company is to embark on a training programme to make sure that every approved franchise dealership has after sales technicians to handle EV maintenance and at least two trained EV sales people on the floor.
This decision comes after Mitsubishi launched its first electric vehicle, the i-MiEV at the beginning of last year and forms the logical next step in the company’s electrification programme.
Mitsubishi wants to have a plug-in hybrid ready for the UK market within 18 months. Two months ago it revealed a medium-sized plug-in hybrid called the Concept PX-MiEV II I at the Tokyo Motor Show. This car might well go on to become the family-size plug-in hybrid Mitsubishi bosses want to complement the all-electric i-MiEV.
The company’s Managing Director in the UK, Lance Bradley, is very positive about the future of electric vehicles in the UK market. He said: “The Pure EV i-MiEV has now been a reality for the last year with lots more new plug-in hybrid technology and vehicles to come to the UK soon. Our dealer network will provide excellent service and be able to offer the best advice to our retail and fleet customers.”
All Mitsubishi electric vehicle centres will have i-MiEV demonstration cars that will be available to customers to test so they can find out for themselves what it is like to own an electric car before they sign up for a car finance package on one of these vehicles.
