Motorists in the Cotswolds who have bought their vehicle with a car or van loan might want to take steps to ensure that their money has not been wasted.

Police are urging local drivers to follow security advice in the run-up to the Easter holidays to avoid falling victim to car crime.

The Wiltshire and Gloucester Standard reports that car parks and tourist attractions are set to get busier in the near future and warns that such places could become hotspots for thieves targeting vehicles.

Acting Police Sergeant Mark Godsland is advising drivers to always keep their cars locked and store possessions out of sight.

"Although this sounds obvious to some, you will be surprised at how many car crimes are a result of the car being left unlocked in a public place.

"By taking these few simple measures and ensuring that the vehicle is fully secured prior to leaving it, motorists can significantly reduce their chances of becoming victims of car crime."

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a man in his 30s is being held in custody by Gloucester Constabulary following 14 vehicle break-ins in one night.
