Motorists in North Yorkshire who do not take care to lock away their in-car possessions could find that they receive a letter from police.
Officers in the region have launched the Scream campaign, which stands for Sustainable Crime Reduction by Educating At risk Motorists, the Nidderdale Herald reports.
Drivers in Pateley Bridge and Ripon will be the target of the campaign.
Police will be patrolling the region on the lookout for vehicles where items have been left on display. These motorists will then be sent a letter explaining to them the potential dangers of failing to hide their possessions.
Drivers have been advised to store their possessions out of sight in the boot to help protect their vehicle - and potentially their Car Finance agreement - from criminals.
However, the officers have said that it is best to remove such items completely from the vehicle if possible.
