Coda Automotive, an electric car start-up based in California, has opened its first showroom in Los Angeles. The store is located in the Westfield Century shopping mall.
The budding electric car manufacturer has not launched its first sedan car yet, but it hopes the store’s location in a well-known shopping mall will create a lot of interest before the model goes on sale early in 2012.
In the highly competitive EV market only time will tell whether buyers will queue for car loans to buy the relatively unknown Coda.
The Chief Executive Officer of Coda Holdings, Phil Murtaugh, says “We’re thrilled to be opening our first Coda Experience Centre in such a consumer rich environment.”
He added that the company would like to start a two-way communication process with consumers offering them a stress-free buying experience and eventually doing their part to speed up mass acceptance of electric vehicles.
Although the store will not sell any cars just now, it will provide prospective customers with an opportunity to find out more about electric cars and the benefits of driving one. Consultants will also explain how the Coda propulsion and battery system works and visitors will even be able to take a Coda EV for a test drive. Test drives will take place in an area below the store, which has been specifically allocated for this purpose. They will also learn how to use a charger.
The Coda electric car is a five-passenger, four-door model. It has a well above average range of 150km and the motor delivers 134bhp.
