Every year tens of thousands of UK motorists take up car loans to buy a Ford Fiesta and it is a safe guess to say that the new Fiesta ST will be highly popular with the UK car-owning public. The motoring press has recently published the first spy shots of this nifty new Ford. These pictures show the car virtually without any camouflage.
We saw the Fiesta ST concept car for the first time in September last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Since then the company has also showcased a five-door version at the Los Angeles Motor Show two months ago. If one compares those cars with the latest spy pictures, it is very likely that the production car will be very similar.
The pictures were taken while the car was on a test run in Germany. They prove that the ST body kit, bold roof spoiler and gaping mesh grille will make it to the production stage. The company will market the five-door model in the United States and the three-door model is intended for the European market.
The new Fiesta ST is powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbo engine that develops 240Nm of torque and 178bhp. The transmission is a six-speed manual. The acceleration figure of less than seven seconds for the 0-60mph sprint is quite impressive, while the top speed of 136 miles per hour should satisfy most drivers. Fuel economy will be around 50 miles per gallon.
