Ford indeed has good reason to smile today: the company’s Mondeo model picked up two awards at What Car? 2012: it was voted both the best estate car and the best family car. This is the second year in a row that Ford walks away with these accolades.
The Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi ll5PS Zetec won the award as the best family car, while the Mondeo 2-litre TDCi l40PS Zetec was awarded the title of the UK’s best estate by the country’s most popular car buyer’s guide.
Editor in chief of What Car?, Chas Hallett, said “The Ford Mondeo has plenty of fresh rivals, but it’s such a strong package that it picks up two more awards this year, for best estate car and top family car.”
The Mondeo was updated last year, adding many hi-tech features and external refinements and improving the quality of the interior.
The Zetec model is responsible for about 38% of sales in the United Kingdom. The car’s standard specifications include a Bluetooth system, 16-inch alloy wheels, adjustable speed limiter, cruise control, leather trimmed gear knob and steering wheel, heated windscreen, electronic stability programme with Emergency Brake Assist and traction control, electric door mirrors and a Thatcham approved alarm.
The 1.6-litre TDCi model is fitted with stop-start as standard equipment. It returns more than 65 miles per gallon and emission levels are fairly decent at 114g/km. The turbocharged 1.6-litre EcoBoost version has a top speed of 134 miles per hour.
You will need car finance of at least £17,795 to drive one of these award-winning models.
