When you sign up for a car finance package, you will be required to have suitable car insurance. In the excitement of the moment it is easy to sign up for an insurance deal that does not even begin to cover your basic needs.
The UK’s number one price comparison website says it is very important to check your car insurance policy for exclusions. The company has analysed a cross section of comprehensive auto insurance policies and found significant variations in cover levels.
Quite significantly, the company found that the more expensive policies actually do not necessarily offer the best cover levels. Some policies, for example, do not include cover for emergency accommodation, medical treatment or car replacement. Often one has to pay extra for certain items to be covered, for example the additional cost of legal cover is between £25 and £30.
A car insurance expert, Pete Harrison, said that if those buying a new car insurance policy wanted peace of mind, they should check the small print to make sure all the necessary boxes are ticked.
He warned that it was crucial to consider the cost of add-ons such as legal cover. Not doing this could mean you choose a policy that looks cheap, but which turns out to be very expensive indeed after adding the cost of vital additional cover.
Harrison added “As our research shows, exclusions and caveats can be commonplace in fully comprehensive car insurance policies, and it is vital motorists scour the small print with a fine tooth-comb, to ensure their policy has the level of cover they need to avoid getting caught out.”
