A new low-emissions record for a production car is to be set in February next year with the arrival of a new model which could tempt Car Loans from eco-conscious drivers
What Car? reports Smart is to release the Fortwo in 2009, powered by a 44bhp 799cc diesel engine emitting 88g/km of CO2, which could interest Car Finance customers looking to cut fuel bills.
According to the site, Volkswagen's Polo Bluemotion and the SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive are Britain's current lowest-emitting production cars, creating 99g of CO2 per kilometre.
What Car? reports: "The Smart Fortwo CDI had originally only been intended for mainland Europe, but has been approved as a right-hand-drive model in the wake of rising fuel prices."
The Fortwo line uses all-aluminium engines to keep weight to a minimum, while the car's design includes a tridion safety cell and side air inlets.
