The credit crunch appears to have so far failed to impact on the car manufacturing industry, according to new figures on the number of vehicles entering the market of new cars for sale.
Officials at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said production is currently up 7.9 per cent for the year, although it fell slightly in June.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt showed off UK-made cars to prime minister Gordon Brown at the British International Motor Show in London this week.
Mr Everitt said: "The main message coming through from the industry is that a stable economic framework is needed in which to compete."
The news could be of interest to drivers thinking of taking out Car Finance to fund a new vehicle and as yet undecided what model to choose.
Mr Everitt added commercial vehicle production is also on the rise with both UK and export volumes up.
The SMMT aims to promote the UK motor industry at home and abroad through business support and other services.
