The finance you need The car you want

Three-quarters of all Car Loans customers in the UK will not check their car to make sure it is ready for sub-zero winter temperatures, new research shows.

With the Met Office predicting a colder winter than in recent years, Car Finance customers could find themselves in trouble if their vehicle does not start.

The study by Motorpoint found that 50 per cent of calls to a major breakdown service last winter were down to battery problems, with the vast majority of vehicles not being checked by car loans customers beforehand.

Motorpoint operations director Paul Winfield said: "The British have always had their own special relationship with the weather. But we were surprised by the extent to which drivers are prepared to ignore the obvious threat posed by longer nights and worsening weather and risk a breakdown or even an accident."

The Highways Agency advises all motorists to get their cars serviced to make sure they can survive winter conditions.
