Drivers in Halifax, Yorkshire, are being urged to take some responsibility for the security of their vehicles.
Motorists in the town of Sowerby Bridge - potentially including those who have used Car Finance to purchase their latest model - are being warned that vehicle criminals will always be around, but they can be tackled.
"People should do everything they can to make sure they don't become a victim," Crime Prevention Officer Police Constable Steve Holderness told the Halifax Evening Courier.
Officers are distributing flyers to people who live in car crime hotspots across the town, but PC Holderness added that drivers could help themselves by not tempting offenders with items left on show in vehicles.
Meanwhile, police in south Yorkshire recently stated that crime in the region has fallen to its lowest level since 2005, dropping 11 per cent between October and December 2007.
