When one signs up for a car loan, it is always good to know that the vehicle you are about to buy has been built by professionals. As far as Nissan is concerned, this certainly seems to be the case.
Trevor Mann, the company’s Senior VP for Purchasing, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management in Europe has been honoured with a CBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours List. He received the award in recognition for his contribution to business in North East England.
Upon accepting the award, Trevor Mann said it was a reflection of the teamwork that underpinned the extraordinary success of the company’s record-breaking plant at Sunderland.
Mann joined the Sunderland plant as a team leader way back in 1985, just before the Nissan Bluebird came into production. In 2010 the plant become the first ever car manufacturing plant in the history of the UK to build more than 400,000 vehicles in a single year.
Mann is now in charge of purchasing, manufacturing and supply chain management not only at the Sunderland plant, but also at the company’s factories in South Africa, Russia and Spain.
When asked to comment, he said he was delighted and honoured by the award. He added: “The recognition is very flattering but is without doubt a reflection of the success Nissan has enjoyed, which has been a result of a sustained team effort over many years.”
Other notable figures who received recognition at the start of the new year are the Chief Technical Officer of Formula One racing team Red Bull, Adrian Newey, who received an OBE and the CEO of Lincolnshire Co-op, Ursula Lidbetter, who received an MBE. Her company operates the Lincoln-based Holland Brothers Jaguar dealership.
