The finance you need The car you want

The UK's speed camera network could be unsafely distracting Car Finance customers while they are at the wheel, research suggests.

A survey by RoadPilot has shown 53 per cent of drivers, including car loan customers, feel they do not always pay attention to the road ahead as a result of keeping an eye out for camera traps.

Others said more signage was needed as they often found it difficult to keep track of local speed limits.

RoadPilot chief executive officer James Flynn said it was "worrying" that speed cameras could be having an adverse affect on driving given their aim was to improve road safety.

RoadPilot has just released what it claims is the world's smallest GPS-based camera locator, called the microGo.

The company ran its poll on automotive website NewCarNet.co.uk and attracted 680 respondents.

RoadPilot also said its microGo technology will measure a car's speed more accurately than a standard speedometer.

There are now about 6,000 speed cameras on the UK's roads, according to figures from Speed Cameras UK.ADNFCR-1366-ID-18610911-ADNFCR
