The recently updated Subaru Forester has been named as the "Junior Crossover of the Year" by Total 4x4, the specialist off-roading magazine. The Forester is now available to purchase with a choice of revised diesel and petrol engines and managed to overcome some tough competition in the judging from the likes of the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Skoda Octavia Scout and Suzuki SX4.
Ultimately, however, the vehicle's combination of exceptional practicality, car-like driving dynamics and Symmetrical all-wheel drive configuration resulted in the Total 4x4 judges singling out the Japanese crossover for the most amount of praise. "Typical of Subaru, the Forester does very good things without making a fuss of it," the magazine noted. "The combination it offers of quality, value, practical usability and driving talents makes it very hard indeed to beat."
The 2.0-litre Boxer diesel Forester range is able to return a highly impressive combined fuel economy figure of 47.9 miles per gallon, with prices starting from £23,070 for the entry level 2.0D X model, rising to as much as £25,070 for the 2.0D XC, and to £29,070 for the top of the range 2.0D XS NavPlus. Those who would rather have some petrol power are given the option of choosing between two models, the Forester 2.0X and 2.0XS, which cost £21,730 and £25,370 in manual guise respectively. Automatic versions are available with a premium of £1000, while all versions are available for leasing on contract hire schemes.
