Motorists applying for unsecured Car Loans in view of purchasing a new vehicle may wish to consider the results of recent research before making their choice.

According to digital motoring magazine imotormag.co.uk, drivers of grey cars are more likely to suffer a breakdown than any other coloured vehicle; meaning new buyers may wish to steer clear.

Of the 1.3 million grey cars on Britain's roads, more than a third have required road assistance, while green vehicles are not far behind in terms of breakdown troubles.

Meanwhile, blue cars, the most popular colour on the roads with over seven million registered, are nearly 15 per cent less likely to leave their drivers stranded.

Mat Watson, editor of imotormag.co.uk, suggested that the results could be down to a tendency for hire and company car fleets to choose grey vehicles - meaning they are subjected to very high mileage.

"Then again, grey cars could just be cursed!" he said.

New and used car owners were warned earlier this week not to neglect basic car maintenance such as topping up screen wash and antifreeze levels to help reduce the risk of breakdown on the roads this winter.
