If you have been postponing your next car loan to see what Toyota comes up with next, the good news is that the company has given the Aygo a facelift. This completes the updates to the trio of models sharing the same platform, including the Peugeot 107 and the Citroen C1.
As is the case with the Peugeot and Citroen, the Aygo now has optional daytime running lights and the front end has been redesigned to bring it in line with the latest design trends at Toyota. The sharper headlights and angled grille make the Aygo look strikingly similar to the new Yaris.
In the interior, Toyota has fitted a steering wheel with leather trim and the dashboard has been given a smart-looking dark grey finish.
Fuel consumption and emission levels are very important for a car in this category. Toyota has managed to improve fuel economy from 61.3mpg to 65.7mpg and reduce emission levels for the 1-litre 3-cylinder engine from 105g/km to 99g/km. This means the car will qualify for exemption from London’s Congestion Charge and road tax.
The improvements have been achieved without reducing power output, which remains at 67bhp. The car’s 0-62mph acceleration time also remains at 14.2 seconds.
Subtle modifications to the suspension system and additional soundproofing will go a long way to making the car more comfortable and quieter than its predecessor.
The updated Aygo will make its debut at the upcoming Brussels Motor Show. It will appear on UK showroom floors in March. Prices are not available yet, but expect to see a small increase in the current price of £8,590.
