As many as one in five young people - including Car Loans customers - got into a car this Christmas believing the driver had consumed alcohol, a new poll has revealed.
The survey of 1,000 people by the RAC Foundation found that 17 per cent of those between the ages of 18 and 24 found had knowingly got in a car with someone who was drunk during the festive season.
Car Finance and Car Credit companies may be interested to know this figure compared unfavourably to other age groups, with eight per cent of those between 25 and 49 admitting to being in such a situation over the last month.
Sheila Rainger, acting director of the RAC Foundation, said: "It is truly shocking that one in five young people are prepared to play Russian roulette by getting into a car with a drunk driver."
Last year, research from the RAC Foundation found that one in six accidents on UK roads involves a person who has been drinking alcohol.
