The government has announced a campaign to target motorists who use handheld mobile phones at the wheel.
The £1.5 million Think! initiative will feature new radio and cinema advertisements alongside last year's television commercial in a bid to persuade drivers - potentially including Car Finance customers - not to endanger themselves and others.
"Our latest research shows the message is getting through to drivers but some people are still needlessly risking their own lives and putting others in danger for the sake of a phone call," commented road safety minister Mr Fitzpatrick, who launched the campaign.
An earlier study by the government found that drivers have 50 per cent slower reaction times when they are on the phone, while their responses are 30 per cent slower than counterparts driving after having had consumed alcohol.
"Talking on a mobile phone when driving is distracting and affects your ability to react to dangerous situations, making you four times more likely to have a crash," Mr Fitzpatrick added.
