The finance you need The car you want

Scientists have uncovered a possible 'stone age' reason as to why young male drivers are more prone to accidents.

In news of possible interest to motorists including car loan customers, a review says risk taking on the road could be linked to the evolution of the human brain.

The report, called 'Sex Differences in Driving and Insurance Risk' was completed by professor Geoffrey Beattie of Manchester University.

He said: 'Our 21st century skulls contain essentially 'stone-age' brains and this can help to explain the differences between the sexes in terms of their risk-proneness while driving.'

Car Finance customers could also be interested to know the report will be put before a government transport committee as it could help shape road safety policy.

It provides an alternative to theories that focus on driving skills alone and says aggressive behaviour that helped protect our ancestors could be the reason why some young men drive unsafely on the road today.
