The number of motorists using their Car Loans to purchase small and diesel vehicles has increased rapidly over the last 12 months, new figures show.
Statistics published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) found that sales of fuel-efficient diesel models rose by 40.2 per cent during 2007 as the push to drive more environmentally-friendly cars took hold.
Car Finance and Car Credit customers may also like to know that the number of people buying superminis - small family cars - also grew as overall car registrations for the year increased by 2.5 per cent.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: "Last year, demand for new cars was stronger than many had predicted. There is little sign that the US credit crisis or rising fuel prices have affected demand and we foresee only limited changes through 2008."
Further research by the SMMT found that carbon dioxide emissions from cars have decreased by 13.1 per cent since 1997.
