Under new proposals, drivers - potentially including those with Car Credit - could find themselves asked to take breath tests at checkpoints across the country.
The parliamentary advisory committee for transport safety has put forward plans to establish the 24-hour checkpoints following positive results from the recent festive period drink driving crackdown.
Police figures showed that while more tests were carried out over Christmas and new year, fewer motorists - perhaps including car credit customers - over the legal alcohol limit were detected.
The Daily Mail reports that the Department for Transport believes the figures to show that drivers are deterred from drinking if an increased number of tests are conducted.
Director of the committee Robert Gif FORD commented: "This will send a message to road users that ministers are taking the issue of drink driving seriously."
Four years ago, the government came under pressure from the European commission to introduce random alcohol breath testing, according to the BBC.
