Greater Manchester car loan customers may be pleased to read that burglaries in which vehicles are also stolen have declined throughout the area.
Police have announced that between November 1st 2006 and January 31st 2007, 71 such incidents took place. Meanwhile, during the same period in 2007-08, the figure was reduced to 36 - marking a drop of 49 per cent.
The positive results follow Operation Mat, which saw a number of key offenders arrested.
Chief Inspector Jo Rogerson, from Greater Manchester Police's Wigan Division, commented: "A large number of vehicles stolen during burglaries are later used in other crimes, so the success of this operation has had a real impact."
She went on to suggest that residents could deter offenders by always using door and window locks, as well as by fitting light sensors and alarms to their properties.
Meanwhile, in the local town of Stockport, police have confirmed to the Mirror that they have cut vehicle thefts by 40 per cent.
