Car loans customers could produce electricity as they drive
Dec 12 2008Secured Car Loans customers concerned about the effect of driving on the environment may welcome the prospect of an innovative new solution.
According to the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), a new type of road has been developed that could allow drivers to generate electricity as they drive over it.
The project is the brainchild of Israeli engineers, and could one day mean new and used car owners across Britain will become a source of cheap power.
A one kilometre stretch of the surface is capable of generating enough power to run eight small electric cars, it is claimed.
Director of the ETA Andrew Davis said the breakthrough could help facilitate a mass shift towards the use of electric cars.
"Certain vehicles could be powered entirely by the roads on which they drive," he suggested.
This could provide "a silver lining" to the problem of heavy traffic, Mr Davis added.
Earlier this week, the Zero Emission Vehicle Foundation campaign was launched, with the aim of putting 20,000 electric cars on London's roads by 2012.
