Car loans news: electric car sales fall
Dec 3 2008The number of buyers taking out unsecured Car Loans to purchase electric-powered vehicles has fallen dramatically, research suggests.
According to figures compiled by CleanGreenCars, sales of electric cars have more than halved this year, with just 156 vehicles bought between January and October of this year.
That compares to 374 for the same period in 2007, and editor of CleanGreenCars Richard Bremner claimed that the drop in sales would come as a shock to most people.
"Perhaps the market for quirky electric vehicles like the Mega City and G-Wiz has had its day," he said.
Mr Bremner also suggested that buyers could be holding off for electric cars to be produced by mainstream manufacturers.
However, car loans customers may still "have years to wait" before mass production becomes a reality, he predicted.
This comes after London mayor Boris Johnson called for manufacturers to meet the needs of the market by producing an all-electric car that was suitable for all the family.
