Over half of British motorists have admitted to driving in the dark without using headlights at least once in the last year, new research shows.
A total of 54 per cent of car drivers asked said they had accidentally driven with no lights on, a move which could cause an accident and lead to credit problems in the future, insurer esure said.
However, the courteous nature of UK drivers has also been revealed, with 90 per cent saying they have flashed their lights to alert fellow drivers of the need to switch on their headlights. Such actions could help drivers avoid going on a Used Car Search.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said: "As the nights become longer and darker, it is essential that motorists use their headlights properly while driving. Drivers must be extra vigilant during the winter and ensuring you are driving with the correct lights on is an important issue when it comes to driving safely."
Earlier this month, road safety charity Brake launched a scheme to highlight the amount of work-related crashes on the UK's roads, a number of which occur when drivers do not use headlights when necessary.
